A snapshot Of What You'll Do:
As a member of the mechanical Engineering R&D group, you will
lead new product design activities for analytical instrumentation,
supporting material characterization. You will work at the
intersection of product design and process development, optimizing
for customer and business needs.
The ideal candidate for this position will have extensive
experience in new product design, process development,
verification, and validation. Experience in electromechanical
assemblies is a huge plus.
You'll also tap into your experience performing design analysis
optimization, utilizing finite element analysis paired with
simulated design of experiments and hands-on
prototyping/testing.

instrumentation, to do this, collaboration is a must. You'll work
cross functionally with Electrical, Software/Firmware Engineers in
R&D as well as Production, Project Management, and Quality to
assure the successful design and launch or new instruments and
products.
The Impact You'll Make:
- Lead product design activities with limited supervision
- Perform concept development and prototyping; creating and
interpreting analysis to determine suitability of design
concepts
- Utilize geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T)
practices
- Provide guidance and mentorship to engineering staff
- Incorporate risk-based decision making into design process
- Apply Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies to all aspects of the
design development process
- Ensure on time completion of Design Control deliverables
- Partner with Project Managers to translate VOx feedback into
product design/requirements
- Create and release engineering drawings, reports, and
presentations
- Research, plan, design, verify, and validate electromechanical
products and systems; create 3D models using CAD to refine design
and further test and verify to support project specifications
- Create proposals for new products, improving existing products,
and/or optimizing manufacturability
- Maintain internal mechanical standards and share best practices
with teams; ensuring QuantaTec mechanical practices and standards
are consistent with all Anton Paar facilities
- Attend brainstorming sessions to develop new products and
address existing product challenges
- Present technical findings or project status to cross
functional teams and management through meeting minutes, design
reviews, presentations, and other means of communication
- Develop engineering plans, costed BOM's, and mechanical systems
and parts
- Design and implement test and validation procedures for new and
existing products
- Hold design reviews with project teams to get feedback and
refine ideas
- Track the performance of mechanical systems and parts to
maintain alignment with engineering timelines
- Perform root cause analysis to support quality initiatives, and
initiate corrective action and preventative action plans
- Develop, implement, and document changes to current products to
improve quality serviceability and/or lower costs Education and
Experience We Look For:
The Principal Design Mechanical Engineer, R&D Typically
requires a combination of direct or indirect leadership experience,
education, training, certifications, and skills including:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 7-10 years' experience in mechanical product
development
- Experience with at least one of the following CAD packages: NX,
SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, or Catia
- Ability to perform simulations of complex mechanical
systems
- Strong knowledge of integrating material selections into
designs for product performance and ease of manufacturing
- Ability to design and layout sheet metal parts, panels, doors
and knowledge of the sheet metal fabrication processes along with
the implementation of fasteners for ease of assembly
- Basic knowledge of light duty mechanical pneumatic, or
electrical lifts including selection of motors, bearings, pulleys,
and drive belts
- Knowledge of primary and secondary machining processes
including milling, turning and selection of associated finishes for
both metals and plastics
- Ability to create fully defined 3D models and 2D CAD drawings
from conceptual stages through manufacturing, including prototypes
and testing of concepts
- Understands GD&T techniques and capable of performing
tolerance calculations
- Strong analytical skills demonstrating effective problem
solving techniques
- Self-motivated and a strong work ethic
- Demonstrated efficient work methods and ability to handle
multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a diverse
team Preferred skills include:
- MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- Knowledge of high/low pressure liquid or gas systems and the
ability to design and layout leak tight P&ID, including tubing
templates, fittings, and gating devices
- Ability to design and inspect tooling processes associated with
plastic injection molding, structural foam for aesthetic housings,
and components
- Prior design experience in electromechanical devices and high
vacuum technology
- Experience with transducers and sensor integration
- Six Sigma Green Belt or higher Skills and Qualifications We

Our team utilizes various programs to develop our products, and we
are continuously enhancing our mixture of software to keep up with
modern software development methods. Currently we use:
- SAP, Concur, Polarion, Confluence, Jira, Minitab & Visio
- Lotus Notes Suite: Extranet, Internal Database, Master Data,
Team Calendar & Workflow International
- MS Suite: Project, Excel & PowerPoint
Supervision Exercised
This role is an independent contributor who will lead mechanical
engineering teams and does not have any direct supervision of
staff.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is
regularly required to sit, stand, walk, observe, communicate and
handle items such as computers, machinery and other equipment. The
employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
Position requires the ability to obtain a Passport for
international travel.
