A Snapshot of What You'll Do: The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for the mechanical design, development and testing of Anton Paar QuantaTec's new and existing analytical lab instrumentation products. In this role you'll be responsible for:Managing the mechanical team and design process to ensure state of the art tools and techniques are utilized to ensure that projects are delivered on-time with unsurpassed quality.Actively leading by setting priorities, expectations and fully advancing the team through hiring, training and mentoringCoordinating with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to support existing products and new product development The Impact You'll Make: To succeed as a Mechanical Engineering Manager on our team, you'll need to be a self-starter who leads a team, balances multiple projects on defined timelines and engages with inter-company teams to refine the product requirements. Job duties include:Evaluating internal talent to best allocate resources and assign work accordinglyAttending meetings on behalf of the department for project planningActing as a liaison between departments in order to ensure project is executed on scheduleHandling the most challenging issues and elevating as necessary on behalf of the departmentWorking with the department Director to meet corporate objectives and targetsMaintaining internal mechanical standards and sharing best practices with teamEnsuring QuantaTec mechanical practices and standards are consistent with all Anton Paar facilitiesAttend brainstorming sessions to develop new products and address existing product challenges Interpreting project specifications to create system concepts and develop 3D modelsCreating proposals for new products, improving existing products and/or optimizing manufacturabilityDeveloping engineering plans, costed BOMs, and mechanical systems and partsDesigning, and implementing test and validation procedures for new and existing productsHolding design reviews with project teams to get feedback and refine ideasCreating 3D models using CAD to refine design and further test and verifyTracking the performance of mechanical systems and parts to maintain alignment with engineering timelinesPerforming root cause analysis to support quality initiatives, and initiating corrective and preventive action plansDeveloping, implementing, and documenting changes to current products to improve quality, serviceability and/or to lower costsProviding technical support on the mechanics to internal customers within a defined time frameDelivering all aspects of the Anton Paar development process with attention to quality and detailFollowing all company policies, procedures, and safety regulationsAll other duties as assigned Education and Experience We're Hoping To Find: The Mechanical Engineering Manager typically requires a combination of supervisory experience, education, training, certifications and skills. This role requires the following:BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalentMinimum of 5-7 years' experience in the engineering fieldMinimum of 2 years managing a teamExperience with at least 1 of the following CAD packages: NX, SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor or CatiaAbility to perform simulations of complex mechanical systems Strong knowledge of integrating material selections into designs for product performance and ease of manufacturingAbility to design and layout sheet metal parts, panels, doors and knowledge of the sheet metal fabrication processes along with the implementation of fasteners for ease of assemblyBasic knowledge of light duty mechanical, pneumatic or electric lifts including selection of motors, bearings, pulleys and drive beltsKnowledge of primary and secondary machining processes including milling, turning and selection of associated finishes for both metals and plasticsAbility to create fully defined 3D models and 2D CAD drawings from conceptual stages through manufacturing including prototypes and testing of conceptsUnderstands GD&T techniques and capable of performing tolerance calculationsStrong analytical skills demonstrating effective problem-solving techniquesDemonstrated efficient work methods and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a diverse teamSelf-motivated and a strong work ethic Preferred skills include:MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalentKnowledge of high/low pressure liquid or gas systems and the ability to design and layout leak tight P&ID, including tubing templates, fittings and gating devicesAbility to design and spec tooling, processes associated with plastic injection molding, structural foam for aesthetic housings and componentsPrior design experience in electro-mechanical devices and high vacuum technology Experience with transducers and sensor integrationSix Sigma Green Belt or higher Skills and Qualifications The Mechanical Engineering Manager will possess leadership skills in addition to technical skills, soft skills and industry knowledge to lead a team of engineers, including:Accountability: Takes responsibility for all work activities and personal actions, follows through on commitments, and acknowledges and learns from mistakesCollaboration: Works well with others on internal and external teams by using effective interpersonal skills Communication: Provides clear instruction to the project team, clearly explains concepts and is available to answer any questions that may ariseCritical Thinking: Performs analysis to determine and assess the needs of the user and then create design to meet the requirements Integrity: Behaves honorably even when no one is watching and follows moral and ethical principles in all areas of work including decision making, interacting with colleagues, and servicing customersProblem Solving: Ability to efficiently identify and resolve issues that arise during the design, testing and maintenance processQuality of Work: Works to the highest of quality standards by anticipating problems, testing and checking work, and pays close attention to detail Self-Starter: Uses trusted and efficient work methods to launch projects and balances multiple projects in a fast-paced environmentTechnical Expertise: Demonstrates depth of knowledge and skills, and develops solutions to highly complex problems by applying technical acumenLeadership: Demonstrates the ability to manage, lead and enable others in order to navigate departmental or organizational change Supervision Exercised This role is a working manager who is a member of multiple teams and supervises approximately two to four Engineers and Technicians Physical Requirements & Working Conditions While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, observe, communicate and handle items such as computers, machinery and other equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Position requires the ability to obtain a Passport for international travel.
